Daily "Duty" Surgery

What are the times of the Duty Surgery?

Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 11.15 am and 2.30 pm – 5.00 pm

How will I access the service?

If patients feel they need to see a ‘Duty Clinician’ they are asked to telephone our appointments line on:  01249 713019

Patients will be asked to provide the following:

  • A brief outline of the symptoms
  • How long have they had them
  • Whether they have previously seen a GP or nurse with this ailment?

Depending on the outcome of these questions, the reception staff will either book an appropriate routine appointment with a clinician, book an appointment in the ‘Duty Surgery’ or ask the Duty Clinician to telephone the patient.

If the Receptionist books an appointment in the ‘Duty Surgery’ the patient will be given a timed appointment slot.

If the Duty Clinician rings the patient, they may be able to deal with their concern over the telephone or they may offer one of the following options:

  • Face to face consultation with the Duty Doctor.
  • Telephone consultation with the Duty Nurse.
  • Face to face consultation with the Duty Nurse.
  • A routine appointment with the patient’s usual doctor.
  • A routine ‘telephone consultation’ with the patient’s usual doctor.

Nurse run clinics:  There are a variety of Nurse led clinics running between 8 am and 6 pm - Monday to Friday

Cancelling appointments: We have a telephone line dedicated to cancelling appointments: 01249 717030. This is an answer phone service and available 24hrs 7days a week. Appointments can also be cancelled by telephoning 01249 713019 and 01249 712232 during opening hours.

Although we have up to three appointment lines being operated, this number is very busy first thing in the morning. If it is engaged, please be patient and keep trying. The receptionists will answer it as quickly as they can.

Improved Access

You can now access additional Primary Care Services in the evenings and at weekends.

Improved Access is a Wiltshire-wide initiative where local practices are working together to offer increased availability of services and appointments in the evenings and the weekend. These appointments are available 18:30-20:00 Monday-Friday, and Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.   This collaboration  by  practices ensures all patients in Wiltshire have this option, but this might mean you will be offered an appointment at another practice.

Appointment types vary - some being face-to-face, some on the phone - and there are a mixture of bookable and same-day appointments available across the week. We offer  appointments with GPs as well as with other healthcare professionals, such as a Practice Nurse or Health Care Assistant . We are keen to balance the importance of continuity of care with convenient access for patients, while ensuring that the service is safe.

To book such an appointment, contact your Surgery during normal opening times. A receptionist will explain the process, and ensure the booking is appropriate. You will need to give consent to use this service.
