Triage / Minor Illness

Some of our practice nurses are trained to assess and treat minor illnesses. Some of the common ailments they manage include cystitis, earache, chest infections, rashes and conjunctivitis. When you phone in for an appointment the receptionist will ask for an outline of your problem. Explaining this to them will help you to get an appointment with the appropriate health care professional to suit your needs. Two of our triage nurses have now undertaken further training and exams and become nurse prescribers. All triage nurses work alongside a doctor, and are able to access further advice and prescriptions if necessary.

If the triage nurse feels that your problem is inappropriate for the clinic, you may be asked to make an appointment with another health care professional.

Some minor ailments can be dealt with over the telephone. This saves you the time of waiting in the surgery. Unfortunately, the nurses are unable to give specific times when they can ‘phone back.'
